FAQ

Here is a list of the most common asked questions to go along with the regular season schedules:

  • How many games do we play each week?
    • Most weeks consist of double headers.
  • What time do games start for double header nights?
    • 1st game: starts at 6:15pm
    • 2nd game: starts at 7:30pm.
  • What time does the game start on single game nights?
    • Game starts at 6:15pm
  • When is a forfeit called?
    • With shortened windows for sun light, especially spring and fall months, a forfeit can be decided 15 minutes after the actual start time, unless previous discussion have taken place or if the team ready shows forgiveness and an alternative solution has been agreed to.

(We encourage captains to please use the captains contact list and communicate with each other as not to waste anyone’s time).

  • What if we're just waiting for a player(s) to arrive?
    • If a team is still waiting for their players, their captain should know what is going on and if they are going to make it in time. Captains please discuss how you want to proceed.
  • What if we're short players
    • If you are missing a guy or girl, talk to the other captain on how to begin until that person arrives. If you are missing a 3rd girl, she becomes an automatic out in the batting order.
  • How can we tell who is Home vs Visitors
    • On the schedule everything is written as 1 vs 2. In reading this, #1 is the home team and is responsible for putting out the bases. During double headers, the first team on the schedule is home team for the first game, then will switch so the second team is home team for the second game.
  • What are the Diamond Dimensions for base placement and commitment line rules
    • Exact dimensions for base placements are on the rules sheet. Here is a brief breakdown:
    • Home to first/third, 65 feet
    • Home to second is 91 feet 11 inches
    • Commitment Line - Approximately, 20 feet from home.
    • Respect line - (line outfielders cannot cross when a female is batting until the ball is hit - 15 feet from the edge of the shale or from the infield)
  • What kind of balls do we play with?
    •  We use the Worth Hot Dot balls.
  • How many innings do we play during the regular season?
    • All regular season games are 7 innings with a 7 run maximum/inning.
  • What is the "Mercy Rule"?
    • If any one team is up over 10 runs by the end of the 5th inning then it is a Mercy, Game Over.
  • What rules or guidelines do we refer to?
    • We will follow the SPN rules with the exception of the SESPA specific rules. Please ensure your team is familiar with both.
  • How do we know if weather could cancel our game?
    • During rainy days please ensure you are checking with the city website for all details. If the fields are closed for that day all games are cancelled. If the city says they are open then all games are on. Please also stay in contact with the other captains during this time to ensure you are all on the same page.
  • What happens when there is Cancellation and we need to reschedule?
    • If by weather or commitment a day has to be made up there are three ways to go about it after talking with the other captain you can:
      • Contact teamsespa@gmail.com to book you a diamond during the makeup games weeks or other days you might be able to get together and play.
      • Work it out between yourself and the other captain on a time and place.
      • Talk to the other captain and split the games/points in a draw type scenario
  • How do we know where we play?
    • Please reference current seasons schedule and use the Diamond Location list.
  • What is the leagues website?
  • What is the leagues FACEBOOK page?
